Privacy policy

This policy covers this website and its waitlist. Plain words, real practice, nothing buried.

Effective August 5, 2026. This is the policy for the website only. An updated, app-specific privacy policy ships with the Tangent app before its beta.

Who we are

Tangent is a student-built project at the University of Toronto. For anything in this policy — questions, corrections, deletion — write to hello@tangentsocial.com.

What we collect

One thing on this site collects data: the waitlist form. It asks for

  • your UofT email,
  • your program and year,
  • gender (optional),
  • residence (optional).

When you submit, we also record a source tag — a short label noting which link brought you here (a poster, a post), so we know which of our efforts actually work. All of it is stored with Supabase, our database provider.

That's the entire list. The site has no accounts and sets no cookies of its own. The one thing it remembers in your browser is that link tag — stored locally on your device, and sent to us only if you join the waitlist.

What we use it for

Two things:

  • telling you about Tangent — launch news and your invite when the first window opens in September;
  • understanding which channels signups come from.

Your information is never sold and never shared for advertising.

The Meta pixel

This site is set up to run Meta's pixel — a small script from Meta (Facebook and Instagram) that reports page visits back to Meta, so we can measure whether our posts actually reach students. While the pixel is active, Meta may connect your visit here to your Meta account through its cookies.

If you'd rather it didn't, you can adjust your Meta ad preferences, or use the industry opt-outs at youronlinechoices.com and optout.aboutads.info.

Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare (Cloudflare Pages). Like any host, Cloudflare processes standard request logs — IP address, browser type — as part of delivering pages.

Your choices

  • Deletion, any time. Email hello@tangentsocial.com from the address you signed up with and we remove your waitlist row.
  • Unsubscribe, any email. One click at the bottom of the message, or just reply and say so.

How long we keep it

Waitlist data is kept until launch communications wrap up, or until you ask us to delete it — whichever comes first.

Complaints

If you believe we've mishandled your information and we haven't made it right, you can reach the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
